Elimination Report Joe & Bill

"Gentlemen - to evil???"* More like "Gentlemen-to panache!" in this incarnation of The Amazing Race.

After having been the Season 1 villains, most would agree that Joe and Bill redeemed themselves in the All-Star version. This redemption actually began years ago, when Team Guido posted on message boards and accepted responsibility for their evilness during the race. While I have never been fortunate enough to meet them (at least not yet!), those who have met them universally attest to their charm.

From Joe's spiffy new hairstyle, to Bill's "stompers" (tm Miss Alli), to their less abrasive approach to competition, we saw a new improved team this time around. Some of this is certainly due to their conscious and acknowledged effort to change their behavior, so that the viewers would be able to see them in a better light.

Their obvious love and commitment to each other was even more in evidence this season, and was even more moving.

Their obvious love and commitment to each other was even more in evidence this season, and was even more moving. Bill's emotional moment after the Auschwitz visit, including an allusion to his and Joe's own relationship, was to me, one of the highlights of the race. And how good it was to see them kissing at the finish line!

Not that they were saints throughout the race - and who wanted them to be? They occasionally snapped at each other (e.g., Bill's comment to Joe at the Kilimanjaro airport that he was "not proud" of Joe's yelling at the plane as it was pulling away), and other teams (Joe's skirmish with Eric and Danielle in Mozambique).

All in all, Bill and Joe ran a good, competitive, though not ruthless, race. They did miss an important part of the clue in Chile but this wasn't a factor in their eventual elimination, which seemed to be caused mostly by a shortage of available flights.

*Yes, this is how their Return of the Racers report started, but this is de rigueur when talking about Team Guido, nest-ce pas?

P.S. to the Guidos, if you're reading this: Apologies that my sister and I blew your "decoy" status! My sister comped you drinks on that flight, and I call dibs on treating you to drinks at TARCon or wherever we happen to meet, as recompense, okay?
