Letters to the All-Stars

Ever wonder about the letters that were sent to All-Star Racers but not found in the episode? Well, we've been calling in favors and digging in trash cans and, aside from a minor rash, are pretty happy with the results. Here's what we've uncovered. (As an added bonus, we've also got the full text of a few letters that did make it to air.)

Nancy & Emily write to Bill & Joe

Dear Bill and Joe,

We were so excited when we heard you had been selected to participate in The Amazing Race All Stars! How cool is that? It will be so fun to watch "Team Guido" on television once again. We want to pat the powers that be on the back for choosing the two of you. Apparently, they did a wonderful job casting if two teams from the ORIGINAL season were selected. The only thing better would have been if three teams had been chosen, considering the third team surely would have been a female team. (Personally, I think a mother/daughter team would have been icing on the cake!)

All joking aside, we wish you the very best of luck. You are outstanding racers and we suspect you will do extremely well. The race has changed some from the original season - not as many cryptic clues but perhaps more physically demanding challenges - but knowing how travel savvy you are will only work to your advantage.

Looking back five and a half years ago as we stood in Central Park just wondering where we might go and what obstacles would be in our way we had no idea what was in store for us or how the game would play out. Lucky you, you made it to the final three.
The first time we actually got to meet you was in Songwe Village, Zambia. You seemed like really nice guys and we were impressed by your friendliness.
The first time we actually got to meet you was in Songwe Village, Zambia. You seemed like really nice guys and we were impressed by your friendliness. The next night you came to our room in Paris and offered us maps, advice and all kind of helpful hints for getting around Paris since "you had lived there two years!" Will you ever live that line down? We were so appreciative of your help.

Our favorite memory of you took place in El Jem, Tunisia. We had the extra 24 hours added to our pit stop so we were able to unwind at the Julius Hotel. It was fun to relaxing to just be able to sit, visit, and enjoy one another's company.

I guess the nicest part is that we have truly become friends over the years. People who haven't had the opportunity to be in this situation really don't understand the bonding that goes on. A trip to San Diego and several trips to Las Vegas have deepened the friendship even more.

Now, on to important thing, do your best while racing. You are incredibly smart racers but it seems the race has gotten a bit harder and more cut throat through the years. Stay focused on the game - that won't be a problem for you - but please take time to look around, appreciate all the beauty, and culture the world has to offer. In other words, stop and smell the roses along the way.

Another important thing who is keeping Guido? We know he doesn't like to be away from you - especially you Joe - but we also know he is getting the best possible care.

We are hoping for great weather, fabulous destinations and interesting challenges. Give a thought to us now and then because we will certainly be thinking of you.

Hugs, Nancy and Emily

Personal note from Emily:

j&b
Hello Guidos!!! Hopefully y'all are having fun, playing well with the other kids, and not getting into too much trouble! (Wink-Wink) Okay now Joe- don't go calling Kevin and Drew "fatties" this time around, and Bill- try not to speak too much French around Drew (you know he doesn't like that!) But as far as the other teams go- I hope your moping the floor with them! It's been so funny to watch the "villains" from the other seasons, and in comparison y'all looked like angels! Obviously there were some times when you weren't our favorite opponents (like that pesky incident at the bike shop ) as I'm sure there were times when we weren't your favorites either (sorry about ordering all the drinks and food and charging it too your room in India, by the way!) Ha-ha! In all seriousness though, you're both truly AMAZING individuals, some of the smartest people I have ever met, and I am proud to call you my friends! I'm sure y'all are doing great, and hope you are showing the world the "Team Guido" we have had the opportunity to get to know and love since we wrapped that first "Amazing Race" around the world!

Take care & God's speed!

-Emily

Nancy & Emily write to Kevin & Drew

Dear Kevin and Drew,

We were so excited to hear you were chosen to represent THE ORIGINAL Amazing Race! The powers that be couldn't have chosen anybody better. We wish we could be racing with you in person but you know we are racing with you in spirit and pulling for you all the way.
Who would ever dream that two bald guys from New York and a Mother and Daughter from Texas could be such good friends?
Do you remember five and a half years ago when we stood in Central Park wondering what was in store for all of us as we ventured on the first Amazing Race? We had no idea where we were going or what challenges were ahead. The unknown was quite frightening and exhilarating at the same time. We officially met at the airport in New York. While waiting for the long flight to South Africa we said our introductions and became the best of friends. Who would ever dream that two bald guys from New York and a Mother and Daughter from Texas could be such good friends?

You are so lucky, not many people get a second chance for a once in a lifetime experience. We hope the places you go are exciting and that you not only have the opportunity to take on new challenges but that you also appreciate all the beauty and diversity the world has to offer.

We have reminisced our favorite memories and two come to mind. The first was sharing the pizza in Agra, India. Do you remember how wonderful that pizza tasted? We spent our limited money on that pizza and were shocked the next day when we weren't given any money at the start of the leg. Oh well, the pizza was still delicious. But the best memory took place at the Laxmi Niwas Hotel in Bikaner, India. In the evening we would sit on the roof and watch the sun set. Margarita ordered bottles of wine and charged them to Bill and Joe's room! How fun was that. After dinner we went to your room and ordered banana splits. Now, that is a great memory and one I hope we never forget.

Now, if we can offer any advice here it is... never give up! Boy did we learn that lesson the hard way and it is one we will never forget. Keep a positive attitude and be persistent. Of course, Kevin and Drew wouldn't be Kevin and Drew if there wasn't some bickering between the two of you. For the sake of all the viewers please keep that up! That is one of the many traits that endeared your many fans to you. At the same time, continue to be sensitive to the people around you - your compassion to the locals was so overwhelming.

Also, please keep a positive attitude. Regardless of what is going on and regardless of what the other teams are doing you need to keep a positive attitude. Don't let them get to you by word or deed. After ten seasons I truly think we had some of the nicer racers on our season - we just didn't know it at the time! It might be a harder race this time so just hang in there! We know you can do it.

So, in signing off remember.... do your best, be fast, have fun and enjoy an AMAZING experience.

Hugs, Nancy and Emily

Hey Big Stars! I'm sure this letter will find you leading the pack, (stirring up a few international incidents along the way), and kicking some serious All Star ass! They couldn't have picked a better team to represent the untouchable enthusiasm & spirit of the ORIGINAL season's cast! The other teams don't stand a chance against the two of you! I am envious, only because I wish my mother and I were right there with you, just like we were almost 6 years ago! (Can you believe it has been that long?) All of my favorite memories on our "Amazing" adventure involve both of you, and there is no doubt in my mind that we would not have made it as far as we did without your constant encouragement and profound friendship. You both will forever be a part of our family, (so don't go adopting another mom and kid sister this time around-you hear!) Cherish this experience, and know that you have two gals in Texas who are sending spirit sprinkles and prayers your way! I love you both, now get moving and take home the million! Always- Em

Ken & Gerard write to Teri & Ian

Dear Teri and Ian:

NO MORE PAPER UNDERWEAR-Please Spare Us. We are so excited to hear you are running the race again and representing Season 3 (Of course the best one ever).

Now first things first!.
And Ian, take off that ugly hat!
Ian, Be nice to Teri! We know you love her but we hope you learned a lesson from the last time. Try aligning yourself with Dave and Mary, John Vito and Jill, or Kevin and Drew. If you do this you guys are guaranteed to go far-or at least have a blast and a great laugh by "trying" to go far! And Ian, take off that ugly hat!

Teri, Keep Ian or as you like to call him "EYE"AN in line! And don't let him blame you for everything. You are an intricate part of the team.

We know you are two of the most competitive people the Race has ever seen (We don't have to tell you two to hang in there as we know you'll never quit until you win this thing). Not many get a second chance in life, so don't blow it this time and go get that 45 foot yacht you've been bragging about.

If the world doesn't know it already, we want everyone to know how proud you are (and we are) of your son Eric who is fighting in Iraq. We pray for victory and his safe return and the safe return of all the men and women fighting abroad. Also a special shout out to the other boys back home- Seth & Brandon! (Don't embarrass themJ)

You should be proud because you remain the oldest team to make it the furthest on the race. One thing we want to know-what beauty tips can you give us for looking so young? Now take it home and win the million for "the older ones" everywhere!

We are so excited-and a bit jealous for you to have a second shot on this crazy race-We, expect nothing less than a Final Three. Stay focused...Continue to believe in yourself. Nothing would bring us more joy than seeing Terri and Ian or John Vito and Jill (In No Particular Order) get First and Second Place. Don't tell John Vito and Jill but we are secretly rooting for you over them...But don't read their letter because we'll flip the names and take the Fifth Amendment.

GO GET EM! We will be cheering for you from our couches. Make the old brothers proud!!!

Hugs, Kisses and Luck....

Ken and Gerard

Ken & Gerard write to John Vito & Jill

Dear Rambo and Rambette:

YAAAAYYYYY!!...JOHN VITO and JILL BACK TOGETHER AGAIN?!...We never thought we'd see that encore but we are thrilled for the both of you! You lucky Dogs! Is there something that you have to tell us? Like, "OH BY THE WAY-WE, CONVENIENTLY forgot to tell you that WE ARE BACK TOGETHER AND RUNNING THE RACE AGAIN". What's Up? Are you guys together or what? Is the Earth Round? How many planets are there? Did the Democrats finally win an election? But most importantly-Did Terri and Ian Finally Stop Yelling at each other? We don't know what to believe?!
We would LOVE to see romantic fireworks between you both but we respect wherever you might be with things. It is nobody's business but Ken's.
The one thing that we do know and believe is that you two can win this race as a romantic (boom/boom) couple OR as a team who is not together but have a wonderful love and respect for each other. We would LOVE to see romantic fireworks between you both but we respect wherever you might be with things. It is nobody's business but Ken's.

There are a few skills that the other Lucky teams should learn from the both of you. They should learn Honesty, Competitiveness, Great Attitudes and a certain coolness under pressure. We know you guys don't know what it feels like to place in the top 3 like we did (Ouch, was that a jab at America's sweethearts?) but for God sakes...Make it Happen!!! You guys have the ability to once again show the world that the race is not about the money but about the joy of running it and fully experiencing the world......Oh...Bullshit-- THE RACE IS ABOUT WINNING A MILLION DOLLARS SO STOP READING THIS LETTER AND MOVE YOUR MUSCLED BUTTS TO THE NEXT PIT STOP!!! Jill did you bring the hot curlers again???

We are so excited-and yes, a bit jealous for you to have a second shot on this crazy race- Expect nothing less than a Final Three. Stay focused like you did on our season (The Best One Yet). Continue to believe in yourselves because we certainly believe in you. Nothing would bring us more joy than seeing Terri and Ian or John Vito and Jill (In No Particular Order) get First and Second Place. Don't tell Terri and Ian but we are secretly rooting for you over them...But don't read their letter because we'll flip the names and take the Fifth Amendment

GO GET EM! We will be cheering for you from our couches. Make the old brothers proud!!!

Hugs, Kisses and Luck....

Flo & Zach write to Teri & Ian

Dear Teri and Ian -

Well, we must admit that we would have loved to be here in person, right now, racing against you, in the middle of Burma...or is it the middle of Qatar, or, wait...maybe it's just downtown Philadelphia. But wherever you are...we are with you in spirit. And we know that since you won't be distracted by all the bickering with Flo... You can for sure bring home the million in honor of season 3....the best season ever!
We remember the first time we saw you-all decked out in your safari colored gear, and shiny white sneakers.
We remember the first time we saw you-all decked out in your safari colored gear, and shiny white sneakers. We have to admit that we didn't expect that a retired couple could ever make it so far and become one of our biggest competitors! You were right-you were definitely flying under the radar. And even though we had our share of disagreements-you know that we grew to love you guys!

Remember Terri - when Ian yells at you, it's just because he loves you. And Ian, we really hope you have broken out your signature safari hat for this 2 nd epic journey. Of course, we hope you left the paper underwear at home this time...we can recommend some nice wicking fabrics if need be. Soldier on and the best of luck to both of you....whoraaaaaah! Here's to the return of the big kahuna!!! If you win, we are coming to Florida for that celebratory boat ride!! GOOD LUCK!

Love,

Flo and Zach

Flo & Zach write to John Vito & Jill

Dear John Vito and Jill,

Vito and Jill - you are the chosen ones...you must represent and bring home the gold! We know you can do it! Just remember you two pioneered the eating challenges with your Swiss cheese gluttony fest back in the day. If you can eat an entire pinwheel of cheese, surely you can take whatever food based challenges come your way in this spin around the globe.

We remember when we first saw you, how scared we were of you guys- so fit and lean-we knew you would be fierce competitors and we are glad you ended up being our friends. We loved hanging out with you on TAR 3 and are SO sad not be there to race with you this time...and to beat you AGAIN!! Just kidding-we are rooting for you BIG TIME!
John - when things are getting ugly just flex your muscles and the other teams will surely run in fear as we did before we really got to know you.
Here are some words of advice: John - when things are getting ugly just flex your muscles and the other teams will surely run in fear as we did before we really got to know you. And Jill - please remember to use the bandana to your advantage...we're convinced that is where you get most of your power so please don't forget that.

Stay tough, stay focused and keep your eye on the prize. We expect a top three finish this time! You are New Yorkers- you are tougher then all these wimps! Here's to another season 3 victory and another celebration dinner back in New York! Go JVJ!!

Love,

Flo and Zach

Ray & Deana write to Uchenna & Joyce

Uchenna and Joyce,

A second "chance-of-a-lifetime!" Think about that guys!!

So this letter is to give you some encouragement and advice. We're gonna help you win this thing dammit. First, some constructive criticisms regarding your efforts in TAR 7.

Let's start with that backpack Uchena. No need to pack the equivalent of a 10 year old boy this time. Lighten the load buddy.
Joyce, look a little tired and frazzled this time, y'know? People look at you and think the race is a walk in the park.
Joyce, look a little tired and frazzled this time, y'know? People look at you and think the race is a walk in the park.

Oh.... and about this "working together" crap. Yeah you guys were that caring couple that went through that touching head shaving thing (yawn), always nice to everybody, blah blah blah. Come on guys, that's all played out. All that nice guy stuff, forget it! This time this is what we want you to do. Go for the throat. Don't work as a team - this is a contest of two individuals. Forget exchanging ideas - just slows you down. Cut throat, that's the ticket! You know, run through, and over people. Disrespect the old people on the race, they just get in the way. Don't give anybody money. Lie, manipulate, cheat whatever! If a puppy gets in the way, kick it!! .... and for God's sake yell at, and degrade each other - often!! That's what worked so well for us on the last ..... uhhhh....oh yeah..... nevermind.

Seriously, even though we can't be there to run this one with you, we want you to know that we are bargaining with a higher power (even higher than Bertram!) on your behalf. We're still negotiating but here is what we are hoping for you on this race:

  1. We hope that any inevitable eating road block consists of Filet mignon and Lobster Tails along with a generous helping of Chocolate Mousse.
  2. May every pit stop be a 36 hour stay at a 5 star hotel
  3. May every person you stop and ask directions to speak fluent English.
  4. May every country you visit have vehicles that drive on the right side of the road while you sit on the left.
  5. May all your flights find you in seats 1A and 1B.
  6. May all of your production crews consist of 25 year old world class athletes.
  7. May you find great comfort in sleeping on cold hard concrete floors.
  8. May any foot race find you competing only with those older, slower and weaker than you.
  9. If you jump, may your bungee cord be strong and the correct length.
  10. May you have the good fortune to see Phil's raised eyebrow on the mat at each and every pit stop.

As you can see, if all of our wishes on your behalf come to fruition, you will pretty much coast to another Race victory!

BUT just in case we don't get our wishes, remember the following when you are cold, hot, tired, hungry, angry, stressed, weak and homesick:

  • Many people (including most ex racers) would trade places with you in a heart beat.
  • The other teams are just as cold, hot, tired, hungry, angry, stressed, weak and homesick.
  • When you look back on this you will not remember the pain, just the joy.
  • remember who you are representing..... TAR 7!
  • uhhh, come on - ANOTHER million dollars!!!

BUT most of all remember this.....

When you do find yourself, cold, hot, tired, hungry, angry, stressed, weak and homesick....

SUCK IT UP!

All our love!

Ray & Deana

Ray & Deana write to Rob & Amber

Rob and Amber,

Hi guys. We thought we be there with you until we realized that Rob bribed our taxi driver to take off without us! Damn, we should know better by now!
Hi guys. We thought we be there with you until we realized that Rob bribed our taxi driver to take off without us! Damn, we should know better by now!
Seriously, offering suggestions to you guys concerning your performance in an All-Star format, is kind of like offering pitching tips to Roger Clemens, or in your case Rob, telling Manny Ramirez how to hit better. Really not much constructive criticism we would pretend to offer.

So instead we thought we would remind you of your strengths and give you a perspective from past competitors, and current friends, as to what it is that you make you two such an effective team.

Rob, your competitive nature is second only to your ability to think outside the box. Outside the box? Nah you rip the friggin box to shreds. Cool under pressure and afraid of nothing (well other than eating bad meat), your relentless style and willingness to put a target on your back, is why you are both a winner and make for great television.

Amber, you are not the opposite of Rob but instead the perfect compliment. A tough competitor in your own right, you possess the ability to keep Rob focused and to offer more sane alternatives. In classic good cop - bad cop style you play the role of the sympathetic sweet partner to perfection, all the while going for the jugular with the same zeal as Rob. Your stealth style is why you sometimes don't get the credit that we KNOW you deserve.

Anyway, what we think would help most is to offer our thoughts and encouragement to you. We've partied together a lot the last couple years, including at each other's weddings, and we've become great friends. While we regret that we can't share this experience with you, please consider this our way of doing so in spirit.

Stay strong, stay positive and well, stay yourselves. We'll be watching at Nicole's house.

All our thoughts, all our respect, all our energy, and most importantly, all our love.....

Ray & Deana

Lyn writes to David & Mary

Dear David and Mary,

I am so proud of you both. I can not think of another team that I would rather see on All-Stars than the two of you. You are All-Stars in my book. Now, because you are there, I want you to do two things: beat the Barbies and win. I definitely want a team from Season 10 to win. If I had to choose between you and them, you definitely know I want the two of you to bring home the money. Do it for me. I would love the honor of saying that I have friends who are millionaires. Wow, that sounds great!
By the way, have I told you that I was so proud of you? Ok, I am sorry I got off the topic.
I really feel that you two are more prepared for this endeavor, than possibly any other team there. I really feel that when you are Racing out of the need to win and then the desire to travel, it feeds your endurance far more than when you have the desire without the need. I can say that that is one of the things that kept me going. By the way, have I told you that I was so proud of you? Ok, I am sorry I got off the topic.

I am happy to say that your Little Angels are doing just fine. They, along with the rest of America are anxiously awaiting your second chance win. The whole country fell in love with the two of you and I know that they would be ecstatic if you brought home the money. Race hard for all of us that are racing All-Stars through the two of you. I urge you to be a little less sweet and a lot more hard-core. Everyone else has something to prove. There have not been many that could say that they have been blessed as much as the two of you, and have not even won the race. Shut them up. They are just haters. The two of you have been given a second chance.

I want you to know that I am going to write the beauty queens. I am going to let them know that although I did not/ do not care for their actions; I hope that they do well. I have to hope that they do well, because maybe their accomplishments will inspire some other females to go out and try something that will bring them that much closer to their dreams.

Enough about them. I am really getting good at this secret keeping stuff. I have had to tell several little white lies. People have been asking if I have spoken with you recently. I have to keep the stories going. I will have to feel you in on all the great stuff that you have been doing in my land of make-believe. I see why we tell the kids not to lie. That concept that you have to keep telling lies to cover for the previous one is right on the money. I have had to write my stories down just to keep up with them. I definitely could not let anyone think that you and I were not friends any longer. I have definitely placed the two of you in my friends for life category.

I am so happy and proud of you. I am more happy and proud to say that you are my friends. I pray that God keeps you safe; that He gives you strength; that he guides your pathways right to the finish line. Do well, have fun, and think about me when you get to the table. Save me a seat.

Love always,

Lyn

Lyn writes to Dustin & Kandice

Dear Dustin and Kandice,

I know that it is definitely a surprise to hear from me. I am probably one of the last people on earth you thought would have sent you a letter. Let's just be honest. I am probably one of the last people that you wanted to get a letter from while you were on All-Stars. Isn't it funny how life seems to always throw us little curve balls?
I am excited to know that they chose teams from Season 10. I am even more delighted to know that they chose some of my best friends, and they chose my biggest competition.
First, I would like to tell you that I wish you the best. Really I do. I am excited to know that they chose teams from Season 10. I am even more delighted to know that they chose some of my best friends, and they chose my biggest competition. I am happy for the latter, because it said that if, throughout the show, we ended up being a threat to you then we were at your caliber of racing.

I will not lie to you and tell you that I hope you win. You, as well as everyone else in the country, know that I will be rooting for Mary and Dave to win. I would like the two of you to come in a strong second. I would like to have TAR10 really represent. I want the two of you to do well for several reasons. The first is that I feel you to have become models, along with the Bowling Moms, and Karlyn and me. We have become a picture of "can do" for women around the world. The Bowling Moms help other women that fit their demographic to have something to look to. African Americans, African American women, and women raising children can look to Karlyn and me and think, gosh if they can, we surely can. You have a world looking to you for inspiration. Women, in my opinion, need a picture that is out of the box of their normal lives to validate the statement "I can do anything." Please do well, race with integrity, (regardless of how the edits make you look) and come in second to Mary and Dave.

I will leave you with these thoughts to clear the air. I can not say that we have entered into a life long friendship, but I can say that we will have lifelong memories that we will always be able to share. I pray that God keeps you safe, strong, and true.

TAR 10 for the win,

Lyn
