The ATC Report

"In Control" - Vol. XI, No. 3

Last week we rather enjoyed actually reporting what happened on the most recent leg of the race, so we thought we might actually give it a go again.

Teams left the pit stop heading for a nearby town where they had to find a church, at which they would find their next clue. As we see scenes of the teams all heading out, we hear...

"Come on, Charla! Hurry up!"

Opening the clue, teams discovered that they had to fly to Puerto Montt, and then drive from there to the town of Metri. At the clue box we are treated to scenes of Guido Bill standing in front of Eric & Danielle's car to prevent them from leaving (have we ever mentioned how much we actually like the Guidos?), and we also hear...

"Come on, Charla! Hurry up!"
Only the Guidos are smart enough to write down the security code for their credit cards, so only the Guidos are smart enough to get the early tickets with Uchenna & Joyce (have we mentioned that we also think the Guidos are really bright guys?).
At the airport, teams camp out in front of the various ticket counters, all trying to secure the earliest flight out (except for Rob & Amber, who had already bought their tickets via the Internet). Uchenna & Joyce decide to break camp and head to a local hotel to book tickets via the Internet there. Before leaving, they extend offers to several other teams to buy tickets for them as well. Only the Guidos are smart enough to write down the security code for their credit cards, so only the Guidos are smart enough to get the early tickets with Uchenna & Joyce (have we mentioned that we also think the Guidos are really bright guys?). As the teams are rushing for their airplanes, we hear...

"Come on, Charla! Hurry up!"

At Metri, teams discover the Roadblock for this leg. One team member has to jump into a tank full of what appear to be Flounder, remove the fish by hand, and then transport them to another tank. Most of the racers appear to be ignorant of the actual danger that they are in, but several of the racers show the proper fear and respect for the deadly, highly venomous Flounder. Fortunately none of the racers are injured during their close encounter with the notorious man-eaters, but several Flounder suffered minor injuries during the transport process. Once the fish were removed, teams could read their clue printed on the bottom of the tank, which told them to find the sign for La Maquina just outside of Petrohue. As the teams completed the Flounder encounter, we hear...

"Come on, Charla! Hurry up!"

Reaching La Maquina, the racers found this leg's Detour. Their choices were a 40-foot rock climb or a 2.5-mile white-water rafting trip. Since all the teams in ASTAR® are in such excellent physical shape, they naturally all chose the shorter of the two tasks, the 2.5-mile white-water rafting trip. Even Dustin and Kandice chose to do the rafting, mostly because they didn't know they had another choice, as they actually missed the Detour clue. As teams completed the rafting trip safely (except for Teri, who managed to fall out of her boat), they found the clue directing them to the next Pit Stop at Playa Petrohue. As she rushed to change clothes and head for the Pit Stop, Mirna lost her car keys, but found them and her voice in time so that we could hear...

"Come on, Charla! Hurry up!"

For the third time in three legs Rawb & Ambuh hit the Pit Stop first, winning a complete home gym. (Have we ever mentioned that we got bupkus for winning the leg we did? Not that Steve or Dave would have a use for a home gym, mind you...) All the other teams filtered in except for Charla & Mirna and Dave & Mary (who had previously taken a wrong turn). Just when it looked as though Dave & Mary might pull it out, Charla & Mirna jumped onto the mat to claim 8th place. This left Dave & Mary to hear the words that no racer ever wants to hear...

"Come on, Charla! Hurry up!"
