The ATC Report

"In Control" All-Star Edition, No. 1

By now, we are pretty sure you've either read one of the spoilers telling of the teams that will be in "All-Star The Amazing Race" (ASTAR©) or you've heard someone talking about those teams. Well, you've read/heard wrong. Until today, CBS has gone to extreme lengths to keep the identities of the 11 All-Star teams a secret. For the first time anywhere, Steve and Dave are privileged to present the cast of ASTAR. You might well be asking yourself, "Why would Steve and Dave get to announce the cast? Wouldn't CBS do that on The Early Show? That's where it's been done in the past."
We've been sworn to keep the reasons behind CBS' choice of "In Control" to reveal the re-racers as secret as CBS kept their identities before today.
Fair question. We would love to be able to answer it for you, but we can't*. We've been sworn to keep the reasons behind CBS' choice of "In Control" to reveal the re-racers as secret as CBS kept their identities before today. And take our word for it; CBS went to some extensive lengths to keep the identities a secret. They even staged phony starts in 3 different cities, as well as the real start in a fourth city.

Anyhow, here's the group of "re-racers", listed in order of their original season. (We also know the order of finish, but we won't spoil the whole thing for you.)

SEASON 1:

Lenny/Karyn: Initially both of these two refused to return. CBS somehow managed to convince Karyn that viewers really loved hearing her yell, "LEEEEENNNNNNNYYY". She agreed to stand outside Lenny's window and yell same until he agreed to race again. Lenny quickly caved.

SEASON 2:

Tara/Wil: The casting agents for ASTAR© reasoned that fans needed someone to root against, and with a final "popularity rating" of 26%, Tara and Wil seemed to fit the bill. Time will tell if they can break into the 30%+ range or not.

SEASON 3:

Michael/Kathy: One of the stranger selections of the re-racers. When asked their opinion of Michael and Kathy, most fans of the show said, "Who?" When asked to select which picture was actually a former team from a group of four pictures, more fans of the show selected a picture of Ronald and Nancy Reagan than selected the picture of Michael and Kathy. But hey, they're in anyhow. (Actual results in the 'pick a picture of the former racers' test: picture of 2 pigs eating slop - 22%, picture of Reagans - 35%, picture of Tribefan & miri - 26%, picture of Michael & Kathy - 17%)

Fortunately, Steve and Debra happened to be touring the CBS studios at the time and were recognized by a washroom attendant...

SEASON 4:

Debra/Steve: One of only four teams ever to lose to Steve & Dave in The Amazing Race, these two were a last minute replacement when the show's producers realized that Lance Bass actually hadn't been a former racer and eliminated the Reichen/Lance team. Fortunately, Steve and Debra happened to be touring the CBS studios at the time and were recognized by a washroom attendant, otherwise ASTAR© would have gone off with only 10 teams.

David/Jeff: Another puzzling selection, Dave and Jeff are the only team to score worse on the 'pick the picture' test than Michael and Kathy did (pigs - 24%, Reagans - 37%, TARflies pair - 27%, Dave/Jeff - 12%). Heck, they were on our season and we're not even sure who they are.

SEASON 5:

Marshall/Lance: Producers felt sorry for these two since they were forced to leave the show in their season due to an injury. (At least that's what they would like the fans of the show to think.) If you re-watch season 5 on GSN, you won't see anything about these two "quitting". That part has been carefully edited out.

SEASON 6:

Jonathan/Victoria: Trying to ensure that they had a team to root against (see: Tara/Wil), the producers turned their eyes towards a team that had the worst popularity rating ever. We didn't know it was possible for a team to get negative popularity points, but there's a reason Jonathan and Victoria are in ASTAR©.

SEASON 7:

Debbie/Bianca: Hey, they're hot. What more needs to be said?

Ryan/Chuck: Hey, they're hot. What more needs to be said?

SEASON 8:

No teams selected, thank heavens. This gimmick season doesn't need contestants from the other gimmick season.

SEASON 9:

Lisa/Joni: They lost their tiaras in the first episode during season 9. This time they both plan on racing with the tiaras attached all the time - with Velcro straps. Unfortunately, we heard that another team told Joni to "party like a rock star" during one of the earlier legs.

SEASON 10:

Erwin/Godwin: The producers were so enamored with the headline that read, "Er- and God- WIN!" after the brothers finished first during a leg in TAR10 that they had to invite them back.

So there they are. 11 teams, all of whom have raced once before - none of whom actually won. Of course, this time that will change for one of them.

*By "can't", we actually mean, "won't". There's no real reason for CBS to tell us who the re-racers are. To be honest, they didn't tell us. We made the whole group up. Let's just keep that admission our little secret, shall we?
