The first clue directs teams to fly to Palermo, Italy (850 miles). They drive themselves to Franz Josef Strauss International Airport.
The first teams arrive to find a closed airport. At an internet center, BJ/Tyler book tickets online. Lake/Michelle tried, but couldn't book anything. Teams depart Munich on one of three flights, all connecting in Rome:
Alitalia flight #435, departing at 6:35 a.m., arriving at 8:10 a.m., carries BJ/Tyler, Eric/Jeremy (who had standby tickets)
Lufthansa flight #3860, departing at 9:30 a.m., arriving at 11:05 a.m., carries Lake/Michelle, Fran/Barry, Dave/Lori, Joseph/Monica
Lufthansa flight #3862, departing at 10:45 a.m., arriving at 11:55 a.m., carries Ray/Yolanda, Dani/Danielle
From Rome, teams take flights:

Foundry or Laundry?
Foundry--Teams selecting this option must walk to a nearby foundry, (Premunda Fondieri Barroac at 8 Via Renda), pick up a 110-pound church bell and load it into a delivery vehicle, drive to, and then carry it to up to the Chiesa Maria del Soccorso and deliver it to the priest, who will give them their next clue. Choosing this option were: Joseph/Monica, Ray/Yolanda.
Laundry--Teams selecting this option must find one of 12 pieces of clothing marked with a red & yellow tag among the 2,400 items on the hanging laundry lines, working from the balconies of apartments on the Corso Giuseppe Garibaldi. Once they find it, they must take it to the laundry woman, who will give them their next clue. Choosing this option: BJ/Tyler, Eric/Jeremy, Fran/Barry, Dave/Lori, Lake/Michelle, Danielle/Dani.
Teams complete the detour and receive their next clue:

The next clue directs teams to drive to Segesta (13 miles; Wiki article; satellite map; map of the grounds; photos). They are cautioned that a YIELD is ahead, which Lake/Michelle use on Danielle/Dani. Once there, they must hike one mile to the Theater. Teams arrive at the next cluebox:
8) Ray/Yolanda, who arrive after the yield has expired.

Selected member of each team must piece together a classical Greek statue from the provided pieces. There are two pieces which aren't a part of the statue.

The final clue directs teams to make their way on foot, downhill, to the next pitstop, at the Tempio de Segesta. They arrive there:
