Prognostication

I Ching — Episode Five

So I’m no longer predicting placement. Instead, I’ll note who will have an easy time of it and who may make mistakes.
Okay, let’s face it: my placement record stinks with this, Meredith and Maria’s correctly predicted Philimination notwithstanding. I do, however, have a knack for finding out who’s going to have trouble in a leg. So I’m no longer predicting placement. Instead, I’ll note who will have an easy time of it and who may make mistakes. Therefore, this week the question is “how did this team experience this leg of the race?” Yeah, same question as before, but I’ll process the answer differently.

Aaron & Hayden

Hexagram: 9 Small development.

Does this mean they form an alliance? Or want to? I believe that’s exactly what it means. An alliance will help them stabilize their position and gain strength. Their great danger is in stubbornness. If one of them digs in their heels over some trivial matter, all bets are off. Interestingly enough, the previews show her getting bent out of shape over two other teams’ alliance. So there will be great fussing over alliance, whether it’s their own or someone else’s.

Experience in this leg: Good if they remain flexible and open to working with others.

Adam & Rebecca

Hexagram: 3 Difficulty.
One of them gives up early on and lets the other lead, or we see more stupid but possibly entertaining bickering.
They need to work through some problems in Senegal in order to thrive. It’s not been a great place for them, according to the I Ching, which must have watched the last episode and giggled when Rebecca revealed that Adam’s mommy cuts his toenails. If they leave the country, they should work out some of the tension between them beforehand, or they’ll have problems. Also, one person needs to assert herself (yes, I’m picking Rebecca) and gain the assistance of the other, because they can’t have two equals – one has to be the leader.

Experience: One of them gives up early on and lets the other lead, or we see more stupid but possibly entertaining bickering.

Don & Mary Jean

Hexagram: 56 Travel.

Hmm, what could Travel possibly have to do with their experience here? Travel means small success, which I believe is about all this team is capable of at this point. Interestingly, there is an underpinning of destitution in this hexagram, and Don & MJ will indeed be destitute, at least for a while.

Experience: They’ll be so happy just to have each other when they finally lose.

Freddy & Kendra

Hexagram: 37 People in the Home.

“Those who are hurt in the outside world return home” according to this reading. And Freddy & Kendra really didn’t adjust well to being outside Western culture, did they? If they stay in Africa, it’s only going to get worse for them; if they go to Europe or some other more familiar place, they’ll be a lot more comfortable. (And if that’s the case, don’t look for them to get very far in the race – there are lots of other countries where they can be uncomfortable.)

Experience: They’ll have a major meltdown if they don’t get out of Africa soon; if they return to Europe, they’ll be happy campers.

Gus & Hera

Hexagram: 13 Association with Others.

They had this reading last time and didn’t do so well in terms of placement, but that was mostly because they chose the wrong detour and didn’t stick with the pack. In terms of experience, they seemed to have a good leg otherwise. Gus will still want to connect to people this week, and that connection could very well be the spiritual connection with his people’s history that we see in the previews. Again, a broad and open willingness to seek and accept help is key.

Experience: This will be an emotional leg for them, and they will need to connect with others for a more positive experience.

Jonathan & Victoria

Hexagram: 19 Overseeing.
They’ll do well if Victoria just submits to Jonathan’s bullying, but this could be one of their last legs as a top team.
Overseeing as in bossiness? From this couple? No! Actually, the I Ching predicts more success if one of them asserts himself as leader. Since I don’t believe Victoria could assert herself over a three-week-old kitten, we’ll assume the leader is Jonathan. And this could be a very successful leg for them, although the I Ching warns that it could also contain the seeds of their ultimate destruction.

Experience: They’ll do well if Victoria just submits to Jonathan’s bullying, but this could be one of their last legs as a top team.

Kris & Jon

Hexagram: 61 Sincerity in the Center.

Last week, I correctly predicted difficulties for Kris & Jon, then incorrectly had those difficulties affecting their placement. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back in terms of the way I was doing the readings. This week? The I Ching predicts they’ll do well if they keep doing what they’ve been doing. And I personally predict they’ll have fun doing it.

Experience: Positive. Of course.

Lori & Bolo

Hexagram: 20 Observing.

They’re going to make some kind of change, and their behavior after the change will be different from what preceded it. There’s some danger of distraction and lack of concentration. Maybe the dispute in the previews will throw them off their game.

Experience: Change can be good, or bad – we’ll see which it is.
